About The Dog Man®

I am a master in dog training, am non-judgmental and am resolute in my wish to help.

“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself, and thus is regarded as man’s best friend. I would add the proviso that ….at least he can be with the right training.”

And that is where The Dog Man® can help, through my 1-2-1 positive reward based programme, working alongside owners, to develop confidence and practical handling skills.

My credentials are that I am a former Home Office approved Police Dog Handler, trainer and ex-military man with more than 20 years’ experience; there is not much I have not seen, heard or partaken of. I have trained dogs for high-profile sieges, arrests and royal events alike. I have loved every minute of a journey that has taken me from Staffordshire Police to The Royal Army Veterinary Corps.

Sharing my professional insights and showing how modern, up-to-date, proven, praise and reward based dog training techniques can be applied in the home became an inevitable progression in my career and one which I very much enjoy and is the basis of my business.

Knowledge is at the heart of what I do; I have a FdSC (degree) in canine behaviour and training, and continue to be a keen student in the way animals think and behave as well as guest lecturing at specialist colleges on the subject. I believe you should never stop expanding your knowledge and developing and progressing your skills base, especially if it is a subject you are passionate about; and that is why you can be confident that I will teach you the latest approved techniques.

My background in canine psychology means I work alongside veterinary practices within Staffordshire and neighbouring counties as well as being a training advisor to the RSPCA, a re-homing consultant for CAESSR a national charity which rescues Cocker and English Springer Spaniels, and the Ministry of Defence, training dogs to British Forces standards in specialist search capabilities and environmental training for search and rescue including dog deployment from Military Helicopters, with specialist RAF teams.

I initiated a Canine Research Project for the Law Enforcement Agencies Dog Systems and a joint research project in Applied and Environmental Geophysics to expand understanding of the methods dogs use to search.

The therapeutic effect of a healthy relationship between humans and animals has been long documented. I have seen it first-hand and it is a reason why I am honoured to have been appointed the UK Programme Co-ordinator of Animal Assisted Therapy Training for the European Society for Animal Assisted Therapy (ESAAT) where clicker training and other associated praise and reward based methods are used.

Drawing on my knowledge and a wish to afford the market a premium product, I have developed my own premium dog food, The Dog Man’s Choice. It is an exciting development for me and builds on everything I have learned thus far about what makes for a contented and healthy pet.

Then there is that ‘extra bit’ which I give to each and every dog instinctively. It is why I am referred to as The Dog Man, and why the name has stuck, it is the je ne sais quoi of how I achieve great results. I seemingly appreciate and understand how an animal learns, whether it be a Great Dane or a Chihuahua.

If you are looking for a happy, attentive, faithful and loyal dog that you will be proud to have accompany you everywhere, whatever the event, and want to train the positive reward based way then please call on The Dog Man®, you could not be in a safer pair of hands.
