For years I’ve worn Scarpa walking footwear, so it took a lot for me to try something different. After plenty of research, I decided to give the Dolomite Men’s 54 Low FG EVO GTX walking shoes a go.
I’m genuinely glad I did.
From the moment I put them on, they fitted like a glove. There was no uncomfortable breaking-in period, no rubbing and no pressure points—just instant comfort straight out of the box.
Sizing & Fit
One thing I was particularly concerned about was the fit.
I wear a UK size 11 and have a fairly wide foot, so I wasn’t sure whether these would give me enough room.
Before ordering, I rang OutdoorClothing.co.uk and spoke with one of their team. She advised that the Dolomite 54 Low FG EVO GTX is generally true to size and didn’t recommend ordering a half size larger.
I took her advice and ordered my usual size.
For me, it was absolutely the right decision. They’re a genuine size 11 with plenty of width and fit comfortably without feeling tight or restrictive. Everyone’s feet are different, of course, but I can only speak as I find—and these are absolutely bang on.

Before buying, I also spoke with the team at Run & Ride in Milford, Stafford, who are well known for their outdoor and running expertise. They didn’t have my size in stock at the time, so I ended up buying elsewhere, but they were incredibly helpful and happy to offer honest advice rather than simply trying to make a sale.
The gentleman I spoke to couldn’t speak highly enough of the Dolomite 54s. He’d owned a pair himself for years and told me they just keep going. In fact, he’d had his resoled rather than replacing them, which says a lot about the quality of the shoe. That conversation gave me the confidence to take the plunge. As a professional dog trainer, I spend hours on my feet every day in fields, woodland, parks, country lanes and urban environments. Comfortable footwear isn’t a luxury—it’s essential.
The nubuck leather gives them a premium look and feel, while the Gore-Tex lining provides reassurance when you’re dealing with wet grass, muddy tracks and typical British weather.
I’ve worn Scarpa footwear for years, along with several other outdoor brands, but these have genuinely impressed me. They’re supportive without feeling heavy, comfortable enough to wear all day, and smart enough to wear away from the trail.

I’ve also bought a set of black laces which I’ll probably fit at some point, although I have to admit the original light grey laces have grown on me.

They’ve earned a permanent place in my kit, and I can see why so many people who own them stay loyal to the brand.
